I'm overwhelmed!!!!! Recently,I added -- to what already felt like a full plate -- a nervous, rescue dog and an intense yoga and dance training. So, everything feels like too much. Do you know how I feel?
Meditation is a perfect response to overwhelm. But silent meditation has been extra tricky for me lately because my monkey mind is really swirling and darting at breakneck speed.
So, a mantra... I'm working with Ang Sang Wahe Guru. If you've taken class with me, you probably already know that I'm partial to this mantra. It means: The Infinite wisdom vibrates in every cell of my being. In a blog titled "Mantra for Chaos: Ang Sang Wahe Guru," Ramdesh Kaur writes, "Throw a wrench into the gears of your brain and stop it from spiraling further out of control."
I love that explanation of what happens when we chant. When we thread a positive, ancient sound through our consciousness, it interrupts the cycle of anxiety and worry and planning and allows us to be in a relaxed state. Here's my prescription for myself and I invite you to try it.
1. Sit in easy pose with the hands in gyan mudra and close the eyes.
2. Sing Ang Sang Guru, along with this track by the Guruganesha Band until you feel better.
3. Repeat daily.
I also want to add that, unfortunately, I compounded my harried state by judging myself -- looking at others around me who seem to be handling so much more and asking, "What's wrong with me? Why am I so overwhelmed?" This wasn't helpful. Today, I read a beautiful letter from Gurumukh, one of our most beloved and inspiring Kundalini teachers, about the need to offer non-judgment to oneself. You can link to that letter here.
